The next round of direct U.S. peace talks with the Afghan Taliban is scheduled to begin in Doha June 29. Both sides are expected to engage in open dialogue aimed at reaching an end to the 18-year-long Afghanistan war. But journalists and rights activists in Afghanistan are expressing grave concerns about the impact the outcome will have on freedom of the press and free speech in the country.
